Pace of Play Guidelines

Arlington Golf worked directly with the United States Golf Assoication & PGA of America to establish best practices for our facility.  The staff will utilize these to assist in the implementation of the P.O.P. policy including the use of Visage GPS target times & communication directly with the golfers.   The goal is to implement a pace of play policy that will maximize the enjoyment of all golfers.  With your HELP in the following areas, you should be able to easily maintain your position on the course relative to the pace of play target time of:

4 HOURS & 7 MINUTES

Guidelines & Helpful Tips for the Golfer

1.  Start Smart - Confirmation of your tee time in advance and make it a point to arrive early and ready to play.  "Tee it Forward" unless you are consistently able to reach greens in regulation from the back tees.  Play from a set of tees that is confortable for you.  It is acceptable for players in the same group to play from different tees, and the USGA Handicap System provides a formula for adjusting handicaps from different tees if needed.

2.  Minimize Your Time on the Tee - It is acceptable for players to play "Ready Golf", and you can save additional time by playing a provisional ball (Rule 27-2) if you think your original ball might be lost or out of bounds.

3.  Short Pre-Shot Rountine - Pick your line of play once and trust yourself.  Limit yourself to one practice swing, then set up to the ball and play your shot.  Most importantly, be ready to hit when it is your turn, and start moving toward your next shot promptly.  Your goal should be 25 seconds from club selection to pre-shot routine to play.

4.  Use the Buddy System - If riding with a cart partner, don't wait in the cart, get out and walk to your ball with a few clubs.  Be ready to play when it is your turn and let your partner pick you up.

5.  Putting Green Efficiency - If needed mark your ball and clean upon arriving on the green.  Line up your putt while others are putting.  Place additional clubs on the side of the green where you will be exiting to the cart.  Wait until the next tee to record scores.

By following the guidelines & tips, you will complete your round at an enjoyable pace.  In the event your group is out of position, our staff will engage with the group and ask for your help as follows:

  • Visage GPS Pace of Play is communicated on the 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th, 13th, & 16th Tee.
  • Send GPS messaging to inform and ask for HELP with your groups pace of play.
  • Send GPS messaging regarding groups exact time behind P.O.P. and ask for HELP.
  • Send GPS messaging that a Player Assistant will be helping your group regain position on course in relation to time.  They will act as a forecaddie as your group works to get back in position.  If the group is unable to regain position, a staff member will provide the group with options to move back into position, such as skipping shots/holes, or offering a rain check.

Tierra Verde Golf Club partnered with the USGA in a test program called Best Tees. In an effort to improve golfer’s satisfaction, the program is designed to help golfers select the tee that will best maximize their enjoyment of playing the game of golf at our course.
